Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Office Desk Posts.

108.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will increase the number of female office workers in Garda stations in the Dublin area so that more gardaí may be released from office desk jobs to help in the prevention of vandalism in the Dublin area.

It is settled policy to substitute female clerical assistants for gardaí employed on clerical duties.

Does the Minister anticipate any further increase in the number of clerical assistants?

Yes, they are going to be appointed as quickly as we can get them. The clerical assistants for Garda stations have to come from the general Civil Service pool and there are very heavy demands from other Departments as well.
