131.

asked the Minister for Local Government the position of the Ballybryan, Rhode group water scheme extension, County Offaly.

The group have been advised to have a design prepared for the scheme. This will be examined by my Department and, if in order, will be referred to Offaly County Council for approval.

132.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received plans for group water schemes for Ballyfore and Esker, Edenderry, County Offaly; and the present position in the matter.

A design for the Esker scheme has been referred to Offaly County Council for their approval. They have raised technical queries about the source from which the scheme will be supplied. These queries are being examined in my Department and it is expected to have them clarified for the council within the next week. When a design is approved by the county council the group will be advised of the next steps to be taken. A design for the Ballyfore group water supply scheme is awaited by my Department.

133.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the residents of Castleisland town, County Kerry, are suffering severe hardship due to the water supply being cut off daily from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m.; and the cause of the delay in implementing the proposed new water scheme which was approved some weeks ago.

I am not so aware. I approved the tender for this scheme on 27th April last and I understand that the local authority expect work to commence on it very shortly.

134.

andMr. P. Browne asked the Minister for Local Government what proposals he has received from Waterford County Council in regard to minor water schemes; and when saction will be forthcoming.

As the reply includes a list of proposals, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report. I cannot indicate at present when sanction will issue to any particular scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of County Galway the total amount of money paid in the year 1969-70 by his Department by way of grants to applicants for group water schemes; the number of new applications from that county being considered at present by his Department; and if he is satisfied with the progress being made to date.

Approximately £15,000 was paid in 1969-70 by way of State grants to applicants for group water supply schemes in County Galway. At 31st March last there were 22 group scheme proposals relating to 1,070 houses in County Galway being considered by my Department. In addition there were 114 other proposals under preliminary investigation. I am satisfied that, within the resources available, good progress is being made with group water supply schemes both in County Galway and at a national level.

136.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is hoped to provide a sewerage scheme for Ballymoe, County Galway.

No proposals for such a scheme are before my Department.

137.

asked the Minister for Local Government if plans for a sewerage scheme at Riverchapel, County Wexford, have been submitted to him by the Wexford County Council; if so, when such plans were submitted; and if sanction has been given to commence work.

The preliminary report for this scheme was submitted to my Department on 4th June and is under examination.
