Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Brussels EEC Mission.

19.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if it is the intention of the Government to increase the delegation staff at the EEC mission in Brussels.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the staff employed at the EEC mission in Brussels. I am satisfied that the staffing at the mission is sufficient for our present needs. The strength of the mission staff is, however, constantly kept under review and will be increased should we find it necessary to do so.

What is the strength of the staff at present?

One ambassador, three councillors, three first secretaries, one executive officer, six clerical assistants-shorthand/typists, one clerical stenographer, clerk stenographer recruited locally and two messengers recruited locally. Two of the councillors and one of the first secretaries are on loan from other Departments.

What is the total number?

Resident in Brussels?

There is movement of staff at intervals of meetings from Dublin to Brussels also.

The Minister has not the full number employed abroad?

This is the staff as given to me and I have read it out.
