Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Services for Pensioners.

39.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare to what extent meals on wheels, domestic help and laundry services for pensioners, as referred to by him on 16th December, 1969, have been established by Dublin Health Authority and availed of by pensioners.

It has been ascertained from the Eastern Health Board that in the former Dublin Health Authority area these services for persons over 65 are provided as follows: 19,200 meals per month for 1,368 persons at a cost of £2,400; payment to 208 persons as domestic helps at an annual cost of £36,700.

Laundry services are provided either directly or through voluntary bodies but it is not possible to measure in detail the extent to which use is made of the services by pensioners.
