Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Schools.

85.

asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in having an extension provided to Lissard national school, Clonakilty, County Cork.

I understand from the Commissioners of Public Works that they are now in a position to approve a tender for the erection of a prefabricated classroom at this school. My Department will sanction a grant as soon as notification of the cost is received from the commissioners, which it is expected will be within the week.

86.

asked the Minister for Education what it is intended to do with the Protestant national school at Timoleague, County Cork, which is no longer used as a school.

The feasibility of having the prefabricated structure at Timoleague transferred to another school is being investigated. If this is not feasible, the question of its disposal by sale or otherwise will be taken up.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the distance between Lisavard, which area is waiting for a school, and Timoleague is only 10 or 12 miles? The manager has asked me to raise this matter in view of the long time they have been waiting for this school. Would the Parliamentary Secretary consider moving the building at Timoleague, which has been idle for 12 months, to Lisavard where it is needed?

This has been considered and investigated. It has been reported that after inspection of the site at Lisavard it was found unsuitable for the prefab at Timoleague.
