Vol. 254 No. 14

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Factory.

102.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present position regarding the threatened closure of a factory (details supplied) in County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The proprietors of the factory in question have decided to cease operations at the end of September next. The Industrial Development Authority are making strenuous efforts to find an alternative activity to absorb the workers who will become redundant.

The Minister may recall that when the Minister for Industry and Commerce was asked a similar question a few weeks ago it appeared that the firm were going to make arrangements to continue and were having discussions with the IDA and that is why the question was put down. Is the Minister satisfied now that there is no hope of saving the existing firm?

It appears that there is no hope for the existing firm. The IDA are in touch with other undertakings with a view of providing alternative employment.
