Vol. 255 No. 7

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Home Budgeting Agencies.

56.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what measures, if any, he is prepared to introduce to regulate home budgeting agencies.

I indicated on 28th April in reply to questions that I was contemplating legislation and I can now say that I am having legislation prepared which will impose three broad requirements on these agencies. The first will be to indemnify their clients, by means of an insurance policy of a substantial amount, against possible loss, the second to make audited accounts available for inspection, and the third to ensure that any funds which may accumulate will be placed only in sound and readily realisable deposits.

Could the Minister indicate when this legislation will be introduced?

I would hope to have it introduced in the next session.
