Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Railway Line Fencing.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power what measures exist to ensure that railway companies provide proper fencing along all railway lines; and if any inspections are made periodically to see that such regulations are complied with.

CIE are obliged under statute to fence railway lines for the benefit of adjoining landholders in order to protect their lands from trespass and to protect their cattle from straying by reason of the railway. I have been informed by the board that inspections are carried out at regular intervals by CIE staff to ensure that this requirement is observed.
