Vol. 255 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Unemployment Benefit Claim.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare why a claim on British stamps (details supplied) took six weeks to process.

The claim has not taken six weeks to process. In fact there has been no delay in my Department in dealing with this man's case. When he made a claim to unemployment benefit on 17th June, 1971, it was found that the record of his employment contributions under the Social Welfare Acts did not satisfy the statutory conditions for payment of unemployment benefit. A query regarding contributions paid in respect of his employment in Britain, then sent to the relevant British Ministry, has not yet been answered, despite reminders. The man has been paid unemployment assistance from the commencement of his claim.
