Vol. 255 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Value Added Tax.

27.

asked the Minister for Finance the effect of the value added tax on the sale of meat and other agricultural produce under EEC conditions.

The proposals for VAT contained in the Government White Paper published in March last are based on the directives of the EEC in regard to the adoption of a common system of sales taxation for all member states. Under these proposals the tax element in the price of meat and other agricultural produce on the home market will not change as compared with the present system. Any tax element in sales on the export market will be virtually eliminated.
