Vol. 255 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Creamery Milk Quality.

34.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the quality of milk delivered to creameries in County Waterford in the first six months of 1970 and of 1971; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The percentage of the total milk supplied to creameries in County Waterford in the first half of 1971 which qualified for my Department's quality bonus was 88.7 per cent. The corresponding figure for the first half of 1970 was 85 per cent.

The percentage of the total milk intake at creameries generally which reaches quality standard has shown a progressive increase since the introduction of the quality bonus scheme in 1965. The performance of suppliers to the County Waterford creameries has improved in line with the general trend and the percentage of their supply now qualifying for the bonus compares very favourably with the national average of 75 per cent.
