Vol. 255 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kildare Factories.

106.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if an officer of his Department has visited any factories in County Kildare to discuss with the managements the position of the factories in relation to entry into the EEC; and, if so, how many factories were visited and when.

For a number of years past, my Department have been in constant contact with industry with a view to promoting and encouraging adaptation to conditions of free trade. Such contacts involve discussion with groups representative of industry, with trade unions, and with representatives of individual firms. Visits to individual firms in various parts of the country for on-the-spot discussions are a feature of such contacts. In the period mentioned, a number of firms in County Kildare have been visited, for the purposes indicated, by officers of my Department.
