Vol. 255 No. 19

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Housing.

97.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of the year 1971-72 the number of corporation houses to be completed by the Waterford Corporation.

98.

asked the Minister for Local Government the number of applicants for corporation houses on the Waterford Corporation housing list; and the number of such applicants who are on the priority list.

I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 97 and 98 together.

Waterford Corporation have not submitted information to my Department regarding the number of houses which will be completed by them in 1971-72. However, work was commenced by them last March on a scheme of 160 houses and the development of 26 private sites at Lisduggan and the estimated time for completion of this scheme is two years. The corporation are also considering the provision of a programme of about 100 houses a year over a period of three years, under the low-cost project.

As housing authorities are not now required to furnish information with regard to applicants for rehousing in order to justify proposed housing schemes, information regarding the number of applicants at present on the corporation's housing waiting lists is not available in my Department.

99.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in relation to County Waterford (a) the number and location of schemes of county council houses to be built in 1971-72 which are before him for sanction, (b) the number and location of schemes of county council houses sanctioned by him since April, 1971, and (c) the number of applicants for county council houses at present on the county council's application list for houses.

No proposals from Waterford County Council for housing schemes are before my Department for sanction, nor have any of their schemes been sanctioned by me since the 1st April, 1971. Proposals for the acceptance of tenders for three isolated rural cottages were submitted recently and are being examined. As housing authorities are not now required to furnish information with regard to applicants for rehousing in order to justify proposed housing schemes, information regarding the number of applicants at present on the council's housing waiting lists in not available in my Department.

At 31st May, 1971, the county council had work in progress on 81 houses, had 105 houses at tender stage and were preparing plans for schemes which will ultimately comprise some 444 houses.
