Vol. 255 No. 19

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

125.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether group schemes and private householders will be allowed by Cork County Council to take a water supply from the main which is being laid at present from Glenbeg Lake to Castletownbere in West Cork.

While this is a matter for the county council, I understand that group schemes will be allowed to take a supply from the main. I am advised, however, that technical difficulties would arise in connecting individual houses direct with the main.

126.

asked the Minister for Local Government if money has been made available to Kerry County Council to enable them to start work on the mid-Kerry water scheme; and, if not, when it will be made available.

The question of the financing of a water supply scheme does not arise until a tender for the work has been received. I cannot say at present when that point will be reached in regard to the mid-Kerry scheme.

127.

Mr. Dunne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the severe water shortage in Borrisoleigh, County Tipperary; and if he will expedite sanction of the scheme submitted to him by Tipperary (North Riding) County Council.

128.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will be in a position to sanction proposals submitted by Tipperary (North Riding) County Council for a water improvement scheme at Borrisoleigh.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 127 and 128 together. It is because of the deficiencies of the existing Borrisoleigh water supply that a new scheme has been planned. Contract documents for this scheme were submitted to my Department on 14th May and are under consideration. I am not yet in a position to say when a decision thereon will issue. I understand that the local authority are considering the temporary boosting of the existing supply pending provision of the new scheme.

129.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the group water scheme at Corry, Drumsna, County Roscommon; and when work will commence.

As the Deputy is aware a suitable source to serve this scheme has not yet been located. It is not possible, therefore, to indicate, at this stage, when work will commence.

130.

asked the Minister for Local Government the up-to-date position regarding the proposed group water scheme at Castle-Ellen, Athenry, County Galway.

The ESB were recently requested to prepare a design for the group. When a design is received it will be examined as quickly as possible.

131.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Borris-in-Ossory water supply scheme, County Laois; the progress his Department have made in regard to the supply of water to the village; and when the water supply will be provided.

I am informed by the county council that work on this scheme will commence shortly. It is not possible to say at this stage when work will be completed.

132.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a decision will be given at an early date in respect of a proposal in his Department for a group water scheme which will provide water for a number of county council houses in Doonane Terrace, Crettyard, County Laois; and if authorisation to proceed with the work will be issued, as a matter of urgency, to the county council.

The group water supply scheme to serve this area is dependent upon the group obtaining a supply of water from the proposed Swan water supply improvement scheme. This latter scheme will be carried out by Laois County Council. The preliminary documents have been approved by my Department and contract documents are now being prepared. I understand that the group have accepted the county council's offer to design the group scheme for them.

133.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has yet sanctioned a sewerage scheme for Beresford Row, Passage East, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

No proposals for such a scheme are before my Department.

134.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has any proposals relating to the extension of mains sewerage in the towns of Navan, Kilcarne, Balreask, Beechmount, Athlumney and the Commons; if so, when he expects to sanction such proposals; if he is aware that the scheme for this whole area was scheduled in the Meath county development plan for completion in 1970; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Preliminary proposals for stage 3 of the sewerage scheme to serve Navan and its environs, including the areas mentioned by the Deputy, have been approved subject to further investigations of certain technical aspects.

135.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the Shinrone sewerage scheme, County Offaly.

I understand that the scheme has now been advertised for tender.

136.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received any plans from Offaly County Council regarding the Crinkle sewerage scheme; when he will be in a position to sanction the plans; and the present position regarding the scheme.

Contract documents for this scheme, which were received in my Department on 20th May, 1971, are under examination. I am not in a position at this stage to say when a decision thereon may be issued.
