Vol. 256 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Elections Date.

51.

asked the Minister for Local Government on what date it is proposed to hold local elections in 1972.

52.

andMr. Donnellan asked the Minister for Local Government if a firm decision has been taken regarding the date of the next local elections; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose taking Questions Nos. 51 and 52 together.

Under existing law local elections are due to be held in 1972 and there are no proposals for amendment of the law in this regard. The law requires that the elections be held in the month of June and provides that the actual polling date be fixed by order of the Minister. The question of making such an order in relation to the 1972 elections does not yet arise.
