Vol. 257 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Industry Subsidy.

78.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the subsidy paid to the dairy industry in 1969, 1970 and 1971.

The information requested is as follows:

Financial year 1969-70 £30,820,086

(Actual Expenditure);

Financial year 1970-71 £28,996,811

(Actual Expenditure);

Financial year 1971-72 £30,000,000

(Provision in Estimate for current year).

The provision of £30 million made in the current year's Estimate did not provide for increases announced in this year's Budget Statement. In view of the improved market situation for dairy products, I think that the amount of actual expenditure on subsidies to the dairy industry this year will come out at approximately the figure of £30 million provided in the Estimate.
