asked the Taoiseach (a) the number of cattle shipped each year for the past five years through Birkenhead and (b) the percentage of the total exports to Britain which were shipped through Birkenhead in each of those years.

The numbers of cattle shipped from Dublin to Birkenhead in each of the years from 1966 to 1970 were 205,000, 166,000, 147,000, 62,000 and 89,000 respectively. These figures amounted to 48 per cent, 39 per cent, 36 per cent, 20 per cent and 31 per cent, respectively, of the total numbers of cattle exported to Great Britain in these years.
