Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Park.

31.

asked the Minister for Lands if his Department has plans to establish a national park along the Lee valley, County Cork; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A plan drawn up by the Cork Scientific Council for the establishment of a national park in the Lee valley has been received in my Department and will be studied. The Deputy will be aware that my Department is only one of many bodies, both local and national, that might be involved.

32.

asked the Minister for lands if his department have plans to establish a national park on the Cork-Kerry border incorporating Killarney-Millstreet-Ballyvourney; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

All forest areas in the general region indicated have been opened up to public access save where exceptional fire hazard exists. As intimated in previous reply to the Deputy, 30th March, 1971, Dáil Debates vol. 252 No. 10, the extensive Glenday property of Ballyvourney Forest and the Rossacroonaloo property of Kilgarvan Forest are the pivotal points for public access and recreational use of forest areas in the region of the Derrynasaggart Mountains.
