Vol. 257 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Draft Plan.

121.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any objections have been received to the Dublin draft plan; whether these objections will be taken into account; and whether he will give the exact position in relation to the draft plan in the light of these objections.

The making of a development plan under the local Government (Planning and Development) Act, 1963, is a matter for the local planning authority. I understand that a development plan for the city has now been made by the authority after due consideration of the representations and objections received while the draft plan was on public display.

Did the city manager not state that there were over 2,000 objections but despite that he did not find it necessary to alter the draft plan one iota?

That is true.

Is that not an extraordinary statement for a public official to make?

The main thing is that he did consider all the objections.

It would be very difficult to believe that, in view of the fact that out of 2,000 objections not one was considered worth putting into operation.

Deputy Tully is a doubting Thomas. The commissioner also examined each objection individually.

I would doubt the veracity of a statement such as that and no one could blame me for doing so.
