Vol. 257 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Nurses Accommodation.

22.

Mrs. Burke

andMr. McLaughlin asked the Minister for Health if he will give an assurance that immediate sanction will be given to the purchase of houses by the North Western Health Board to provide accommodation for nurses who must be transferred from their existing quarters at St. John's Home, Sligo, to enable building contractors to proceed with reconstruction work in the home.

I have approved in principle of the proposal of the North Western Health Board to purchase three houses for the accommodation of nursing staff. I have asked for further details regarding the purchase price and conditions of sale.

Is there any reason why the Department have not completed the purchase of these houses, which are urgently needed by the nurses, before now?

There have been various discussions on it but anyway we have decided now.

To buy them?

We have decide now.

Is the Minister aware of the pressing demand for the houses Deputy Mrs. Burke and I have been inquiring about? Could the Minister say when the houses will be available for those nurses? They have been newly erected and they are right beside the hospital.

According to my information it will be very soon but the Deputy can get the answer to this question from the North Western Health Board. I have approved in principle and I simply want to hear the conditions of sale and the purchase price. The Deputy can get further information from the North Western Health Board.
