Vol. 257 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois, Offaly Redundancy Payments.

57.

asked the Minister for Labour the number of claims received to date for redundancy payments in Counties Laois and Offaly.

While precise statistics by counties are not readily available, I have made an effort to meet the Deputy's question and I estimate that the number of notifications under the Redundancy Payments Acts received from employers in Counties Laois and Offaly in the period from 1st January, 1968 to 31st October, 1971, was about 600.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary not consider it alarming that his Department should have received approximately 600 claims for redundancy payments from employers in Counties Laois and Offaly in the period specified and can he say what he proposes to do about such serious situations?

All I can do is to refer the Deputy's remarks to the Minister.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary do that?

What good will that do?
