Vol. 257 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Membership of EEC.

19.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if all countries which are members of or are seeking admission to the EEC have written constitutions; and if these have been or are in the process of being amended.

All the present member states as well as Denmark and Norway have written constitutions. Our information is that Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands amended their constitutions for the purpose of EEC membership. In the case of France, the Federal Republic of Germany and Italy such constitutional amendments do not appear to have been considered necessary.

The Danish and Norwegian Constitutions were amended in the early 1960s to provide for membership of international organisations such as the EEC.
