Vol. 257 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers.

43.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will take steps to cancel the proposed redundancy of at least eight workers employed at the State forest at Kinnitty, County Offaly; and if he will take steps to ensure that these workers are kept in their employment.

The whole question of employment on forestry is under constant review and while it will be necessary to reduce staff at Kinnitty forest in the near future, every effort will be made to keep the reduction to a minimum.

44.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in expansion of a reply of 1st December, 1971, the number of forestry workers not in receipt of services pay at each forest retained at a time when workers in receipt of service pay were laid off or given a redundancy notice.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report. The period covered by the reply is the year 1971 to date.

In interpreting the figures regard must be had to the forests comprising widely separated properties where men do not transfer between properties because of the distances involved.
