Vol. 257 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Atmospheric Pollution.

138.

asked the Minister for Local Government the methods used to assess the degree of atmospheric pollution in the greater Dublin area; and what action is being taken to control any possible increase in pollution.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his Question of 27th May, 1971.

The instruments used to measure atmospheric pollution are daily volumetric smoke and sulphur dioxide units, deposit gauges and lead peroxide candles.

The overall problem of air pollution, including the nature and extent of the problem and the remedial strategies which might be adopted, is at present being examined by the inter-departmental working group on air and water pollution which I established last year.
