Vol. 257 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Traffic Control.

139.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will give particulars of the plans drawn up in the past two years by Dublin Corporation for the better control of traffic in the Dublin area; the cost of implementing them; and the likely starting date for the major proposals such as building bridges across the River Liffey and a tunnel under the river.

The Deputy will appreciate from the detailed reply which I gave to questions put down on 12th November, 1970, that action towards improving the traffic situation in Dublin is being approached by Dublin Corporation through short-term measures of traffic management and longer-term schemes for road improvements and the construction of new facilities. I take it that the Deputy's question relates to the latter. I would not have details of schemes which are at various stages of planning by the corporation and consequently I cannot say when such works will commence.

The location of the major schemes submitted to my Department in 1970 and in the current year and on which work has commenced are: St. John's Road; Dodder Park Road Extension; Kylemore Road; Finglas Road; Griffith Avenue Extension.

Traffic management schemes on the Rathmines and Ranelagh routes and on the North and South Quays are also under way. The total estimated cost of these schemes is £996,000.
