Vol. 258 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - ESB Special Service Charge.

15.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware that the ESB are charging a small farmer (name supplied) £5 special service charge every two months: and why the charge is so high in this case.

I am informed by the ESB that the householder in question resides in the board's Knockbrack rural area which is at present being developed under the rural electrification programme. The house is situated 800 metres from the nearest suitable point of supply and connection was recently offered at a bi-monthly charge of £5.95 including a bi-monthly special service charge of £5.

These charges, which are arrived at after taking account of Government subsidy, are not high in relation to the cost, estimated at £700, of making supply available. They are calculated in accordance with fixed rules which are applied uniformly throughout the country.
