Vol. 258 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Waterford Military Barracks.

88.

asked the Minister for Defence the year in which the military barracks was built in Waterford City; and the facilities at present available there.

The available records do not show the year the former infantry barracks at Waterford was built. The site for the barracks was, however, acquired in 1976 under a lease which provided that the barracks should be erected within three years from that date.

The barracks is used at present for the training and accommodation of companies of An Fórsa Cosanta Áitiúil and An Slua Muirí. An officer and two non-commissioned officers of the Permanent Defence Force occupy married quarters there. Parts of the barracks have been made available to the Department of Posts and Telegraphs for storage purposes, the ESB for the erection of a 10KV sub-station and the Waterford Corporation for Civil Defence purposes.
