Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Allowances.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the amount paid in children's allowances in 1969, 1970 and 1971.

The amounts of children's allowances paid in the financial years 1969-70 and 1970-71 were £13,852,000 and £16,368,000, respectively. The amount provided for this service in the current financial year is £17,326,000.

It appears to me that the Minister has referred to two years only. He was asked about three years.

I referred to three years.

I did not hear the Minister mention the third year and I was listening carefully to the reply.

The Deputy must have been the only person in the House who did not hear me. I said that for 1969-70 and 1970-71 the figures were £13,852,000 and £16,368,000 and that the amount in the current financial year is £17,326,000.

That is not what the Minister was asked but we will let it go at that.
