Vol. 259 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Development of Coal Resources.

44.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline the future development of coal resources which is envisaged as a result of this country's having access to the funds of the European Coal and Steel Community.

I take it that the Deputy's question is intended to relate to mining of coal as distinct from marketing.

The State does not participate directly in coal exploration and development and it will be a matter for private concerns to decide the extent to which they will seek to avail themselves of the funds of the European Coal and Steel Community in the event of this country's accession to the European Communities.

Might I ask the Minister what coal resources has this country or is this question just so much hot air?

The Connacht coalfield, the Leinster and the Ballingarry coalfields.

More hot air.
