Vol. 260 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork School.

48.

asked the Minister for Education what steps his Department has taken to provide a post-primary school at Mayfield, County Cork, with particular emphasis on the acquisition of a site, the placing of contracts and the possible date of opening, in view of the undertaking given by his Department that the school would be in operation by the early spring of 1972.

My Department did not at any stage undertake to have a school in operation in Mayfield by early spring of 1972. It is intended to build a community school at Mayfield, which will cater for approximately 1,000 pupils—500 boys and 500 girls. A site has been selected and arrangements to start construction of the school building in July, 1972 are proceeding with a view to having the school in operation in September, 1973.
