Vol. 260 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Bus Service.

66.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that a school bus has been running from Sneem to Dromtine, County Kerry and back again daily for a considerable time and that no children travel on it; the present position in the matter; and if he will make arrangements for an improved transport system as requested by the parents.

The transport service for the Dromtine-Lomanagh district was established subject to the conditions that the average daily number of eligible children conveyed would not fall below seven for two consecutive quarters. Reports which have been obtained from CIE and the Department's inspector disclose that this condition was not fulfilled in the December and March quarters. In the circumstances the transport service has been terminated as from the date of the closing of the school for Easter vacation. The school manager was advised on 11th January and 22nd February of the proposed termination of the service.
