Vol. 260 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Strength.

103.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is satisfied with present Army strength; and whether sufficient transport is now available to enable Army units to be fully mobile.

I am satisfied with the progress made to date in increasing the strength of the Army.

The position in regard to transport, while improving steadily, is not yet as satisfactory as I would like. Many of the vehicles ordered in the last financial year have yet to be delivered. These are expected shortly and I intend to have further substantial purchases of vehicles made this year.
