Vol. 260 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement.

30.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the sections of industry, in addition to textiles, upon which he is negotiating with Britain under the terms of the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement; and when decisions may be expected in regard to them.

As Deputies have been informed already, discussions with the British authorities are proceeding in the context of Article 1 (5) of the Anglo-Irish Free Trade Area Agreement in relation to products for which interim action, in the form of special tariff arrangements, was taken on 1st July, 1971. These products include the following:

Certain iron and steel manufactures; aluminium domestic hollow-ware; certain agricultural machinery; certain domestic electrical appliances; furniture; blankers; ropes, cordage and twine; mobile homes; brushes and brooms; joinery; footwear.

In addition, a small number of other products not affected by the interim arrangements are being discussed, but it would not be appropriate for me to identify them at this stage. I hope to be in a position to make an announcement on the outcome of these discussions in the near future.

Is the Minister indicating that he hopes to be able to make a statement on the outcome of all those particular products in the near future?
