Vol. 260 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old IRA Hospital Facilities.

20.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has any proposals to provide free hospitalisation for certain categories of the old IRA such as wounded or disability pensioners.

The Army Pensions Acts make provision for hospital and medical treatment in the case of pensioners who are in receipt of temporary awards of disability pension. Having regard to the large number of veterans—some 32,000—still alive, there would be serious difficulties in extending such treatment to other categories, but I am examining the matter.
