Vol. 260 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trawler Equipment Grants.

45.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will give grants to trawlermen to enable them to equip their craft with the instruments necessary to avail themselves of the system of Decca navigation which is now becoming available along the west coast of Ireland.

The receiving apparatus necessary to enable fishing boats to avail of the electronic navigational system is supplied by the operating company on a rental basis only and there is no capital costs involved for the boat owner apart from installation charges. Grant facilities are available from An Bord Iascaigh Mhara towards the installation charges. I do not propose to make grants available towards the cost of renting receiving apparatus.
