Vol. 260 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fishing Craft Deficiencies.

44.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if the failure of timber and fastenings in fishing craft supplied to An Bord Iascaigh Mhara under loan arrangements from France has been corrected; and, if so, at whose cost.

There were no fishing vessels supplied to An Bord Iascaigh Mhara under loan arrangements from France. Presumably the question refers to the rot damage which occurred in seven vessels which were purchased in France in recent years by Irish fishermen with the aid of grants from the board. Two of the vessels involved have since been repaired, four are still fishing and one is laid up. Liability for the cost of the repairs has been accepted by the skippers concerned but it is understood that they are in negotiation with the boat builders in regard to damages.
