asked the Minister for Finance (a) what progress has been made to date regarding the central computing unit for Departments which do not have their own computers; (b) where it is located; (c) the estimated cost; (d) the amount spent to date; (e) when the project is expected to be completed; and (f) the name of the architects involved.

A contract for a new building for a central computing unit was placed on 15th December, 1971. and work is proceeding satisfactorily; (b) the site is located at Inchicore Road, Dublin; (c) the estimated cost of the building is £340,000; (d) the amount spent to date is £33,371; (e) the work is expected to be completed by the end of September, 1972; (f) the building was designed by the Architectural branch of the Office of Public Works.

Is the site on which it is being built the site originally planned for it?

That has been it for some time, yes.

Is that the site originally planned?

I have not got that information.

Is it necessary for the Office of Public Works to obtain planning permission?

Would the Parliamentary Secretary let me know is this the site originally planned?

I will get that information for the Deputy. Consideration was given to other uses that might be made of this site.

Will the Parliamentary Secretary write to me on the matter?

I will, certainly.
