Vol. 260 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

120.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the delay in proceeding with the proposed group water scheme at Cloughduv, County Cork; and if he will have the matter examined and treated as urgent.

Some delay has arisen because of difficulty in finding a suitable source to serve the group. It has now been decided to use the source originally proposed, subject to treatment and the group have been advised to engage an engineer to prepare a design.

121.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position regarding the following group water schemes in County Galway: (a) Lackaghmore, (b) Caherenlea and (c) Ballyglass.

Suitable sources for supplying water to these group schemes have not yet been found.

122.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will inquire from Kerry County Council the reason for the delay in starting the Ballydavid and Emlagh regional water scheme; and whether it is intended to commence the scheme in the near future.

Preliminary proposals for a water supply scheme for the Ballyferriter area which includes provision for a supply to the Emlagh area and the extension of the existing Ballydavid supply are under consideration in my Department. I cannot say at this stage when a decision thereon is likely to issue to the local authority.

Question No. 123 postponed.

124.

asked the Minister for Local Government if any arrangements have been made to provide a sewerage scheme at Johnstown, County Kildare so that the housing scheme which has been held up for some time can be proceeded with.

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to Johnstown-bridge. The Kildare County Council's proposal to appoint a consulting engineer to prepare a preliminary report for a sewerage scheme for Johnstownbridge was approved some time ago. There are at present no proposals before my Department in the matter.

125.

asked the Minister for Local Government what plans are before his Department for the improvement of the water supply to the north-west of Dublin city.

Dublin Corporation's proposals for the laying of an 18" diameter watermain to connect the existing trunk mains at Cappagh Cross and Finglaswood are at present before my Department. This scheme would augment the supply to Finglas, Glasnevin, Cabra and parts of Santry area.

126.

asked the Minister for Local Government when he will sanction the sewerage scheme for Clonsilla, County Dublin.

Proposals for this scheme are at present under consideration in my Department. I cannot indicate at this stage when a decision is likely to issue to the local authority.
