Vol. 261 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grocery Trade Inquiry.

15.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when he expects to receive the report of the Fair Trade Commission inquiry into the grocery trade.

I expect to receive the commission's report before the end of this month.

Could the Minister say if it will cover aspects of distribution and delivery within the grocery trade?

I do not know what the report will specifically spell out but the position is that there was an exhaustive and comprehensive inquiry and I expect that the report will make a number of suggestions in connection with distribution.

Surely the Minister is aware of the terms of reference of the inquiry. Did these cover delivery and distribution?

They did, yes. They covered the whole grocery field.

Including distribution?

I am not in a position to anticipate what the recommendations will be.

But they were to inquire into distribution and delivery methods in the grocery trade?

Yes, the supply and distribution of groceries.
