Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Lands.

37.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have any plans to acquire the Collins estate, Newcastle, Athenry, County Galway.

The Land Commission did have proceedings for compulsory acquisition of this property but have arranged to withdraw in favour of a young married man from the area who offered a price well in excess of the Land Commission's estimate of market value.

The Land Commission do not intend to acquire it?

No. They agreed to this young married man taking it. I think that was right.

The Land Commission could not compete at the price?

In effect, that is what they say—a price well in excess of the Land Commission's estimate of market value. The man who is getting it was recommended by Deputy Donnellan.

In actual fact he was not.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have any plans for the acquisition of the Potter estate, Parkroe, Croughwell, County Galway.

Just now the Land Commission have no proposals for the acquisition of this holding but they are keeping the matter under review.

Is the Minister aware that this estate has changed hands quite a number of times and the Land Commission were reluctant to make a bid at any time?

That is two questions, a Cheann Comhairle.

Yes. Question No. 39.
