Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - HEA Report.

45.

asked the Minister for Education when the Higher Education Authority report will be published.

I understand from the Higher Education Authority that the printing of the Report on University Reorganisation is well advanced, and that publication of the report may be expected within the next few weeks.

Could the Minister say what is the reason for the delay? It was originally expected to be published during May and a date even earlier than that was mentioned. Why did it not come out during May?

I can only say that the Higher Education Authority hope their report will be ready for publication before the end of this month. There are printing problems involved.

Will the House be given an opportunity to discuss the report when it is published?

That does not arise now. When it is published the Deputy may ask that question.

And get the usual answer.

That is a very poor attitude on the part of the Parliamentary Secretary.

Can we take the phrase "within the next few weeks" to mean before the Dáil rises or will it be held up until we are in Recess?

The phrase means what I think anyone would understand it to mean, within the next few weeks. It does not necessarily relate to any fixed point in the future.

Without some date there is a temptation to scramble along from week to week.

This would depend, as the Deputy is well aware, on the printing organisation and no Minister or Department are in a position to organise all of that.

Could we not get it in stencilled form?
