Vol. 261 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Patent Grant.

103.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether a patent has been taken out for a product (details supplied); if so, when and whether this was a world patent; whether an English firm has attempted to produce and retail a similar type of apparatus; and, if so, what action his Department intend taking to protect the interests of the Irish firm involved.

An Irish patent has been granted for the product referred to by the Deputy. Patents are granted on a national basis and a world patent does not exist. Once a patent has been granted it is entirely a matter for the patentee to take whatever steps he considers necessary to protect his own interests in accordance with the rights given to him by the patent.
