Vol. 261 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Property Prices.

75.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether any consideration has been given to stabilising the price of property in the Dublin region which has a close connection with house prices.

I have no function as regards the regulation of property prices generally. My main concern about the prevailing level of property prices is in relation to the effect that such prices may have on the cost of land required for housing and other development in the Dublin region, and elsewhere, and hence on the on the cost of new houses. This aspect of the matter comes within the scope of the terms of reference of the Committee on Building Land Prices which I established in January, 1971, under the chairmanship of Mr. Justice Kenny, to examine the whole problem of building land prices.
