Vol. 261 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Liffey Bridge.

107.

asked the Minister for Local Government when work will commence on the new Liffey bridge, Dublin; and the anticipated duration of construction.

The consultants retained for the design of the proposed quay level bridge near the Custom House, between Memorial Road and City Quay, have presented their preliminary report to Dublin Corporation who have agreed on the type of structure recommended. Further technical investigation, including site borings, is proceeding and the corporation are continuing to deal with outstanding issues including legal procedures, and arrangements with the Dublin Port and Docks Board.

It is not yet possible to say when work will start or how long it would take to complete.

A feasibility study has also been carried out on the construction of a larger river crossing, above quay level with associated approach roads, at a location further east, in the vicinity of Macken Street. This would be part of a programme of works recommended in the recent Dublin transportation study to meet long-term transportation needs of the Dublin region. This project is still under examination.
