Vol. 262 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Leaving Certificate Accountancy Papers.

46.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of the disappointment and concern of candidates and teachers regarding the format and content of this year's leaving certificate examination accountancy papers in the honour and pass course; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am assured that the format of the accounting papers in this year's leaving certificate examination is in accord with established accountancy practice. I am satisfied that the content of these papers is no more difficult than was the content of the papers in the previous year.

Would the Minister say whether or not he has had representations from the Business Studies Association in connection with this paper?

I have no information on that but I know that the leaving certificate syllabus is very definite in regard to this point; it states: "Modern methods of recording, form, presentation and interpretation of Manufacturing, Trading, Profit and Loss accounts and Balance Sheets."
