Mr. Ryan

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of pharmaceutical drugs (a) the imports, (b) the exports and (c) the home production per year over the past decade.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to include in the Official Report a statement showing details of the imports and exports of medicinal and pharmaceutical products—excluding veterinary pharmaceuticals—in each of the years 1962-71 and production data for the years 1961 to 1970, the latest year for which production figures are available at present. The descriptions in the statements are those under which the data are recorded in the external trade and production statistics. Drugs are not separately distinguished in the official import and export lists. They may appear under a number of headings. It has been necessary to show combined production data for some descriptions so as to avoid the possible disclosure of information relating to individual firms.
