Vol. 263 No. 3

Written Answers. - Processed Agricultural Produce.

220.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries the subject matter and implications for Ireland of the EEC Commission proposal C. 22. 6. 3. 1972 on the system of exchanges of certain goods based on processed agricultural products.

This proposal was adopted by the Community in Regulation 609/72 of 23rd March, 1972, the text of which is available in the Dáil Library.

The Regulation extends Regulation 1059/69, which set up a Community trade system for certain processed agricultural products, by providing that when levies, charges or other measures are in force in respect of exports of a basic product, the Commission may, under certain conditions, apply appropriate measures to exports of processed products containing a high content of the basic product concerned. This helps to ensure supplies within the Community when, because of a shortage situation for a basic product on the world market, there may be a tendency to large scale exportation of processed products containing that product.
