Vol. 263 No. 3

Written Answers. - Religious Teaching.

454.

asked the Minister for Education (1) whether there is a minimum and maximum time to be spent on religious teaching and (2) the average period of a school day donated to religious teaching in (a) primary and (b) secondary schools.

There is no minimum or maximum period of time specified for the teaching of religion. In primary schools one half hour per day is the normal time devoted to it. In secondary schools the teaching of religion usually occupies one class period in the school timetable.
