Vol. 263 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tillage Farms Future.

151.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will make a statement on the future prospects of tillage farms when this country enters the EEC, with special reference to beet production and the economic working of the sugar factories at Carlow, Mallow, Tuam and Thurles; and if he is satisfied with the position in this sector of agriculture.

Paragraphs 5.21 and 5.27 to 5.30 of the White Paper on The Accession of Ireland to the European Communities published in January last deal with the likely effects of accession on the principal tillage crops grown here. The position in regard to sugar is dealt with further in the supplement to that White Paper which was published in February.
