Vol. 263 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Harbour.

36.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will order a sworn inquiry into the dredging of Dingle Harbour, County Kerry.

37.

asked the Minister for Finance when work will commence on the extension of Dingle pier, County Kerry.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 36 and 37 together.

The approved scheme for the dredging of Dingle Harbour is proceeding. There have been serious delays but the work is over two-thirds completed and should be finished early next year. No question of a sworn inquiry arises.

A contract is being placed for improvements to Dingle pier; a previous contract for this work had to be terminated because the contractor had failed to start the work, although pressed to do so.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary satisfied that no muck would come to the surface if an inquiry were held?
